Gun Play Commentary

by Veronica Paredes

Destabilizing our visceral senses, this manic piece from Rico Gatson unsettles the viewer as it scrambles the popular action films Foxy Brown and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Both of these texts belong to very recognizable genres and both are canonical in those genre's formation and formulation. To throw these two together in an abstract shoot-out is to question their position and their normalcy. How easy is it to expose the perversity of the violence of these texts? Gatson's piece shows that it may not be easy, and its effects certainly are eerie.
