Desk Set proposal via keyboard

by ccManager
Commentary summary:
Spencer Tracy pops the question to real-life spouse Katherine Hepburn at the conclusion of Desk Set

Text Commentary:

In the U.K., Walter Lang's Desk Set was released as "His Other Woman" referring to the EMERAC computer "Emmy" for short. At the conclusion of this one-note romantic comedy, the love triangle between Hepburn, Tracy and EMERAC is resolved with a marriage proposal via computer keyboard, probably a cinematic first. The film, which was sponsored by IBM, effectively acknowledges and then disarms cultural anxieties around computerization and social disruption.
