Commentary summary:
Command of information systems and personal data confers power over others

Text Commentary:

"This, Jack, is your life." TV's Lost is exemplary of a profound shift in the depiction of systems of surveillance from being based on visible evidence to control based on information systems and the metadata by which an individual is constituted. During season three of Lost, the true power of the Dharma Initiative is revealed to be their mastery of data access and the ability to interpellate individuals into systems of categorization.
