Surrogates police surveillance

by ccManager
Commentary summary:
The ambiguous politics in Surrogates are highlighted in this scene of police surveillance

Text Commentary:

"It's like being inside God's head." The control room operator of a police surveillance system in Surrogates shows off his ability to remotely interrupt crimes as they are happening. The film attempts to mitigate the troubling specter of government agents scanning hundreds of video feeds showing, among other things, the activities in hotel bedrooms, by receiving a court order before disconnecting the mechanical avatars who are caught in the act. Admitting that it's a "grey area" in the law, the operator demonstrates that he's one of the "good guys" by stopping a scene of domestic violence with the push of a button.
