The healing power of blood in the early 21st century televisual imaginary

by ccManager
Commentary summary:

Text Commentary:

The cultural discourse circulating around blood in popular media has undergone significant shifts in the past two decades, since the onset of the AIDS crisis when blood seemed to be everywhere in TV and movies, positioned most often as a carrier of various forms of affliction and debauchery. But to what can we attribute the more recent wave of portrayals of blood as a healing agent? On both Battlestar Galactica and True Blood, the utility of blood to heal a full spectrum of human afflictions, from gunshot wounds and blindness to cancer has never been more apparent. When did blood go from being a source of danger to the key to healing?
